The Mappin family and British artist Ted Stourton acquired Camelot Castle in 1999 as a private family home. A restoration project began in January 2006 that is both special and unique in the history of heritage restoration. Their vision was not only to preserve the architectural beauty of the castle but to rekindle its spirit as a place of inspiration, elegance and welcome.
Soon after acquiring the property, they made the heartfelt decision to open parts of their home to public guests. Today, staying at Camelot Castle Estate has been described as an opportunity to experience a “Downton Abbey Experience for Everyman” — a rare blend of grand tradition and genuine hospitality.
The castle continues to evolve as a living work of art, with Ted Stourton’s paintings featured throughout the property, offering guests the chance to engage with creativity as well as comfort. The atmosphere is one of thoughtful elegance, where every corner of the castle has a story to tell.
